What an amazing start to the night!
Alex and Neil – jive
It looks like our reunited duo haven’t got any dance rust! With the exception of sometimes Alex looking a bit flat footed (maybe because of her shoes), I honestly couldn’t be prouder of the two of them. Alex has had to go through so much during the last few weeks and is still fighting. The dance had some really nice basic moves, and also some more unique stuff that you don’t normally see in the jive (yes, I’m talking about that Fortnite dance). However, apart from dancing it well which is only half of it, she just owned it in the way she danced it. There was full on energy from start to end and she just had this amazing, bright and smiling face which just made it infectious. She was musically perfect and the two of them work so well together. Welcome back Neil, we have missed you!
Mike and Katya – Paso Doble
Can I just start off by saying that Katya’s dress is amazing and I need it now! Onto the dance, god bless Mike because we all love a trier and seriously, he tried his hardest. Throughout, he was trying to keep that shaping not only in his arms but also in his body, which isn’t easy at all. There was some really nice choreography from Katya that tried to break barriers and showcase Mike in the best way. I just think that sometimes the moves were right, but they just didnt flow together – if you get my vibes?
Karim and Amy – Viennese Waltz
Once again, Karim has showed us a completely different side to his dancing, a softer and more emotional side. I know the judges might say something about it looking too skippy, however it literally took my breath away in so many ways and i didnt even notice the mistakes. I saw his attempts at the fleckle and reverse fleckle, which are so hard. He has this natural musicality and the way he moves across the room, it was so smooth and elegant from his lines to the fluidity throughout. I’m not a ballroom expert, sometimes I just look at how I feel. It made me feel things, but I see what the judges say.
Chris and Karen – Tango
Alongside some really nice choreography, I am actually happily surprised with Chris. First of all, he kept that intensity and fire throughout and secondly, he didnt dance it half bad. He tried to keep that strong frame throughout and really pushed through the dance floor leading Karen across the ring. Karen is really good at suiting the dance to Chris and, although some of it was quite simple with Karen embellishing it, but there was also some good technical stuff like the solo part where he showed off how much he has improved in his frame. It’s a completely different dance to anything he;s ever done and I really enjoyed it.
Alex’s personality really shone through in this dance and you could see that she loved performing this dance. Her frame still needs work as her shoulders were tensing and raising slightly, that being said this was her best ballroom so far. And I love seeing the grow in her confidence like bruno said and this is really helping her to improve.
Kelvin v Oti – Viennese Waltz
For someone so big and muscly, Kelvin has the ability to look so elegant and tell a beautifully, romantic story. From start to finish, i was completely immersed in the story and it felt as if I was watching a movie in the cinema. You can see that Oti has really been working on his frame, his footwork and softness. Of course, it’s not as strong as his Latin. However, as Motsi says, sometimes a dance is more about how it makes you feel. It’s not often when you see a dance and completely forget that you’re watching a dance show – you just enjoy the moment and watch the beauty and the story unfold in front of you.
Saffron and AJ – Salsa
I was actually quite surprised with Saffron this week. The salsa is not an easy dance and there was a lot of hard choreography. Sometimes, there were times where it looked all a bit heavy and sometimes a bit clumsy – especially in the lifts. However, it had a good amount of hip action in (even if it wasn’t the figure 8), her musicality was really good and her personality shined with such a sassy and high tempo song. However, it wasn’t consistent enough and sometimes just looked a little bit discombobulated. But, for such a hard dance, she did very well!
Alex and Kevin – American Smooth
It looks like Neil is out again and I’m very sad. However, out comes Kevin the Knight in Shining Armour! Considering that Alex has only been dancing with Kev for under two weeks, the two of them looked and dance really well together. It almost felt as if they’d been dancing together forever. She was so elegant and it almost seemed effortless as she glided across that floor. What was the big thing for me was the charisma and personality Alex had which is always a bonus for a dance like the American smooth. Alex is not only becoming a better dancer week by week, but she is also growing in confidence and her ability to perform which just makes it so exciting as someone watching at home.
The partnership I wanted at the beginning. Considering that they didn’t have long to work together they were in sync and in time, the dance suited Alex really well and really showcased what she can do brilliantly. She is continuing to improve each week.
Such a lovely woman and a joy to watch. She was improving each week and you could see her confidence growing, she embodied what the show is all about and fell in love with dance, which as a Strictly fan is the reason I love the show so much.
